News I iCET and IED offer Carbon Accounting training program for NGOs
Recently, a coalition of 40 environmental non-government organizations
officially launched the "C + Beyond Climate Action Initiative", which aims to
encourage all levels of governments and all citizens to go beyond their emission
reduction goals and pay attention to sustainable socio-economic development.
This initiative, financially supported by the Heinrich Boll Foundation, was
launched against the background that international climate negotiations has
stalled and governments, especially those in developed countries, did not take
sufficient action to address climate change.
There are three key
concepts in the "C +, Beyond Climate Action Initiative". The first is
transcending national goals, which is to encourage the government to achieve and
exceed its commitment on emission reductions. The second is going beyond climate
change, which is to combine climate change mitigation actions with
socio-economic sustainability. The third is going beyond China's borders,
meaning to apply China's experience in addressing climate change to the rest of
the world.
As the leading organizers of "C+" and the C + MRV platform, iCET and the Institute of Environment and Development (IED) jointly develop a carbon accounting project, which aims at building the carbon accounting capacity within the member organizations of C+. A professional carbon accounting training course has already been scheduled for February 8-10, 2012. The project will also generate a practical manual for carbon accounting, and provide field trips and online technical support to NGOs in their carbon accounting practices.
